Hazel Richardson

Since qualifying in 2002 as an adult nurse Hazel Richardson has worked predominantly in critical care. Hazel has studied to degree level specializing within the area of intensive care nursing also completing a mentorship module and leading the group responsible for pre-registration nursing students.

Hazel gained her nurse practitioner post within the critical care setting at Salford Royal Hospital NHS trust leading teams of nurses shift by shift caring for level 3 patients and supporting and teaching junior staff. It is within this role Hazel led the group responsible for mentoring students from Salford University whilst on placement within the intensive care setting.

Following the birth of Hazel’s first son she moved onto the nurse bank (NHS Professionals) within Salford Royal NHS trust working on wards and the ICU to relieve temporary staffing issues, gaining experience and insight into other aspects of nursing and alternative areas.
Hazel also joined nursing agencies to work further afield within the critical care setting gaining more experience and insight in different trusts and different ways of working.

After the birth of Hazel’s second son she started to work for Fresenius Kabi Ltd as a bank clinical nurse advisor providing care for patients within the community setting who are receiving parenteral nutrition, these patients have dedicated central line access and receive the therapy within their own homes as per protocols of the intestinal failure teams they are under the care of.

Hazel also went back to part time contracted employment at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS trust within the critical care unit as a staff nurse. To this role Hazel brought a vast wealth of knowledge and expertise. Hazel enjoyed going back to the bare roots of nursing that she had experienced at the start of her nursing career.
After the birth of Hazel’s third son she moved on from contracted roles and now works flexibly within the nurse bank at Royal Preston ICU to help with short term staffing issues.

Working independently within these roles Hazel manages her own workload, splitting her availability between PSP as a highly skilled Clinical Nursing Educator, Pulse nursing agency, Royal Preston critical care unit bank and Fresenius Kabi ltd.
