Nicola Benson

Nicola Benson is an experienced Physiotherapist for both adults and paediatrics as well as a Manual Handling Instructor and Risk Assessment Advisor who has been with PSP since 2011.

Qualified with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy and a Foundation degree in health and social care, from the University of Central Lancashire. Nicola also holds the certificates enabling her to operate as a Manual Handling Instructor and Risk assessment advisor

Before establishing her career as a Physiotherapist Nicola worked within the Health and Social Care sector. She has experience with people across the whole spectrum of ages and a wide range of disabilities and health issues. Nicola has worked within the North West’s key centres and hospitals as well as within private health care. Providing Physiotherapy services for adults and the elderly has enabled Nicola to explore numerous treatment modalities and joint working opportunities with various health professionals in the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).This has developed a rounded, person-centred approach to Nicolas practice which promotes an enjoyable and comfortable experience for her patients and their families.

Nicola is a key member of the PSP Physio team and is proud of the contribution she makes to the expanding case load and development of the service. As a qualified Manual Handling Instructor and Risk Assessment Advisor Nicola also enjoys training her colleagues, fellow service providers and their staff in theory and techniques, in line with current legislation and best practice. She endeavours to tailor training to the individuals and to the patient providing bespoke sessions within the patients’ own homes and with their equipment. This ensures continuity and truly relevant demonstrations and explanations linking in with diagnosis and on-going treatment via our team. She then completes detailed Manual Handling Risk Assessments, handling protocols and programmes to aid support workers and carers that can be kept within the home with patient notes and care plans.

Nicola’s background, further studies and experience have given her a solid foundation of policies and relevant issues related to public health and wellbeing within varied settings. She actively participates in departmental and multidisciplinary team meetings and accepts responsibility for her contribution to the day-to-day running of our service and maintaining a team ethos.

Nicola is passionate about providing the best possible service and outcomes for her patients. She aims to always provide a seamless person centred approach to her practice linking in with all areas of their life and care package and family circumstances.
