Thomas Ramsay

Orthotics Specialist Joins the Team

5th January 2016

Tom Ramsay a Clinical Specialist Orthotist has joined the PSP team. Tom brings with him vast experience in the world of orthotics being one of the first in the UK to gain referrer rights for medical imaging including X-ray, Ultrasound and MRI.

Tom qualified with a 1st class honours degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics at Salford University. An inquisitive mind and passion for physics and human movement meant that a profession in biomechanics was perfect for him. Through his early years of employment his enthusiasm was rewarded with rapid clinical advancement and he was soon responsible for the management of paediatric neuromuscular spinal conditions as well as scoliosis and other complex paediatric spinal conditions.

He developed a specialist interest in lower limb biomechanics, latterly managing a gait analysis facility which looked specifically at the orthotic intervention and how to ‘tune’ or optimise the orthosis, a large portion of this work centred on children with complex neuromuscular needs such as Cerebral Palsy.

These experiences latterly resulted in a unique role within an Orthopaedic triage team assessing front of list, foot and ankle patients. In order to support this role and ensure optimal clinical care, Tom undertook post graduate study, attaining an MSc in Clinical Biomechanics from Staffordshire University, in 2012.

Tom is passionate about bespoke design and the application of composite materials, modern ‘intelligent’ componentry and biomechanical interaction.

Tom says” I’m delighted to be part of such a well known and respected team as PSP. I look forward to getting started and helping clients reach their full potential”
